One of the Palace legends to host guests in our range of exclusive Premium Lounges, Darren has worked with the club for several seasons since retiring from professional football in 2016.
Since then, he has started to build a platform as a popular pundit and analyst, providing his views and opinion on Sky Sports, talkSPORT and others. However, it’s behind the scenes at Selhurst where supporters can truly get to know him.
“It’s a job that I love,” he says. “I do a lot of meet and greets, a lot of tours with my matchday partner, Jane, and we meet some fantastic guys and girls – all the fans we meet are brilliant. Then I go and host a lounge and it’s a fantastic day for everyone involved.
“It doesn’t feel like a job to me – the hard work is travelling from my house to Selhurst Park, but once I’m there it’s not like a job. I’m there with a load of friends, watching a football game and, win, lose or draw, we have a bit of banter in the lounges. I always ask people for their opinions of how the game goes and I’m really looking forward to being back.”
Discussing why in particular he enjoys working at Selhurst’s Premium Matchdays, Darren draws on a connection many supporters will know well: his relationship with Palace fans.
He continues, saying: “This is something I always love doing. The Palace fans have always been good to me, coming from Charlton, their local rivals.
“They took to me immediately, though, so it’s something I’ve always wanted to do: give back to these fans that have been so good to me. I can’t wait to get back.”
